I first became interested in dresses as art objects through artist's bookmaking. The meeting place of shape, color, design and history struck me as an ideal venue for story telling, outside the structure of the book.

My work explores female identity in relation to space by using the empty dress as an icon of femininity. In the context of external and internal space, women have an intimate relationship that defines who they are. I challenge cultural assumptions, consumerism and materialism, while recording women's lives through the mediums of book and paper arts.

The artist's book offers a unique format for narrative, image and text that is like no other. Paper, like the dress, is familiar to us and just as ubiquitous. Paper is cheap and expensive, ephemeral and vastly archival. It is extremely versatile and has long been one of the most important places we have recorded our lives and culture.
